What is Chavutti Thirumal?
Chavutti Thirumal is a rare and ancient technique originating from Kerola, South India, with roots dating back over 2,000 years. Traditionally practiced within Ayurvedic healing, it was developed by Kalaripayattu (Kalari) martial artists as an essential part of their training and preparation, helping to keep the body strong, flexible and resilient.
Unlike conventional massage, Chavutti Thirumal is performed using the practitioner’s feet, combined with assisted stretching, rhythmic movement, and flowing strokes that work with the entire body at once. The therapist uses a suspended rope for balance and control, allowing for steady, intentional pressure and fluid movement throughout the session. The client lies comfortably on a supportive memory foam mat on the floor, which creates a grounded environment and allows for deeper, more effective stretching than a traditional massage table.
Ayurvedic oils are used to nourish the tissues and are selected based on your individual imbalance. In Ayurveda, this imbalance is understood through your dosha, or unique mind-body constitution. When balanced, these oils help bring the body and mind into greater harmony.
The broad, grounded pressure supports deep yet fluid myofascial release, helping to unwind long-held tension without force. This modality is especially effective for improving mobility, restoring natural movement patterns, and supporting overall structural balance. Clients often experience a profound sense of release, spaciousness, and ease throughout the body. The continuous, flowing nature of the work encourages the nervous system to settle while the body softens and opens.
Because Chavutti Thirumal is offered by very few practitioners worldwide, each session is a unique and intentional experience rooted in tradition, precision, and deep therapeutic presence.
